One game, two hits, and back to the DL for David Ortiz

As expected the Red Sox have placed David Ortiz back on the disabled list just one game after returning from an Achilles’ tendon injury.

Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a double in that one game, but aggravated the injury that kept him out for more than a month the first time around and said afterward: “I can’t really play like this.”

He could be shut down for the season if some rest and a cortisone injection don’t do the trick, although this morning manager Bobby Valentine told Alex Speier of that the Red Sox “have the expectation he’ll be back.”

When healthy enough to be in the lineup Ortiz has had one of his best seasons at age 36 and with free agency around the corner, hitting .318 with 23 homers in 90 games to lead the league with a .611 slugging percentage and 1.026 OPS. It’s his first time with an OPS above 1.000 since 2007 and the third-highest mark of his career.

It was only a matter of time, but I didn’t think it would only take one game and then back to the DL.

    His season is finished.

If the Red Sox are serious about selling the team – which I believe is coming very soon – they will not bring this load back to Boston.

I’m tired of listening to Papi and his complaining. He will be in Texas next year to replace the production Josh Hamilton left behind after he signs with San Francisco.

Crystal ball has clouded over and no more visions can be seen right now. Come back later for World Series predictions…

“If the Red Sox are serious about selling the team – which I believe is coming very soon”

      you base this on?

No one was going to want to buy the team with all of those shitty contracts. If they get rid of Ells and Lackey in a similar deal this winter, that for sale sign is seriously going up. Bank on it.

or, they’re just undoing some bad contracts so they can re-tool and become competitive, because, you know, the owners would rather win (and keep the team).

is this halladaysbicepts under a new name?

    Tisk, tisk Red Sox fans.

    Such disdain for TRUTH.

Your statement lacks any factual basis, thus making it opinion not truth. But yes, shame shame on us for not just accepting everything you say.

Ah yes, stating opinion as though it were fact.

    That’s not annoying………….

I think Big Papi is full of it. He’s mad the Sux only gave him a 1 year deal, so basically he’s getting paid for this year for nothing, and he’ll probably sign another 1 year deal. After that he can retire, not a sux fan but I like his style!!
