The Phillies only have 15 BS on the year, which is fewer than the Cardinals, Reds, or Dodgers and only 1 more than the Giants and 2 more than the Nationals.

Blowing saves is common for set up men that come in in close games…it happens to every team. The reason Philly is under .500 is because they have scored fewer runs than they have allowed on the season. Period.

That puts them tied for the WC right now, and 5 games out of 1st before September with a few games against the Braves and Nats to go.

Think of it this way. Ruff is in the minors looking major league ready. Frandsen is showing you he might a little more than servicable at third, small sample size and all. Brown’s plate approach is a nice change of pace from swing, swing, swing away. And the kid we got from the giants might be something too.

I’d like to see them unload Rollins perhaps, but how many games did that bullpen give away or make impossibe this year. Shore that up and guess what? You have your three games or more.

i don’t think they have to be bold, thay have to be smart. SMRT.

the truly frustrating thing for phans is when you look at the Phils’ remaining schedule, they should be able to gain some ground. I’m saying it still won’t be enough, but I can already see how this is going to end. Everyone’s written them off, they’ve quietly picked up a few games, get hot and give reason to hope, and fall just short. I’ll guess they fall short of the 2nd wild card by 3 games or less when it’s all said and done. I fear mgmt could then use the injuries as an excuse to say the team is better than it really is and won’t make the bold moves that need to be made for this team to be a contender again.

A-Gone’s value was high because he has a long-term deal in-place, is perceived as a player who can live up to it, and the receiving team seems to have a ton of money to spend on a player who is sure to be a local favorite. Wright has just a 1-year team option remaining on his contract, same for Dickey. The four together might entice the right team looking for a 1-year stopgap en route to something else, but I doubt it.

Assuming any team would buyout the Johan and Bay deals in 2014, the deal would effectively leave the receiving team obligated to $19M for Jason Bay and $31M for Johan, two players which may not have much of anything to contribute in 2013. Wright and Dickey are considerable talents, but I don’t think so much so that they off-set that sort of money.

Alderson isn’t Omar Minaya and knows the sports MSM is nothing but a bunch of bottom feeding vipers (who are only outdone by our “leaders” Washington DC). Alderson has a plan in place and won’t deviate from said plan because the professional trolls scream louder than Jenna Jameason in one of her films.

As to the Phillies:

A) That contract is hard to move for any kind of value. Lee might not be worth it this year, but it’s the contract value on the market that makes for the real bugger.

B) We did dump Blanton and Victorino.This gives Dominic Brown a chance to finally play every day. And it seems he might not be a total bust if you’ve been watching.

c) 24-17 since the All Star break, too little, too late, but way better than what we saw in June and july.

d) Last seven games, against division leaders, 5-2. I think there’s more room for optimism than you might think.

A few months ago the Mets and Dodgers were in somewhat similar situations, one team was sold to a group who could afford to properly capitalize the team, and revenues will increase as the team becomes competitive.
