The Yankees acquire Steve Pearce from the Astros

Aug 27, 2012, 3:00 PM EDT

The Yankees have announced that they acquired corner guy/first baseman Steve Pearce from the Houston Astros in exchange for cash considerations. To make room for Pearce they DFA’d Brandon Laird.

Pearce was with the Yankees earlier this season, where he hit .318 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI in limited play before being traded to the Orioles. The Orioles dumped him and he signed with Houston. And he started the season with Minnesota, who dumped him before spring training.

Dude gets around. Guessing he doesn’t plan on unpacking.

“Pearce was with the Yankees earlier this season, where he hit .318 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI”

Before NY fans get too excited, may be worth mentioning that was with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees!

I think he was a utility pick up when a couple of their outfielders were on the DL and Carlos Lee was going out the door. Otherwise, he doesn’t fit the profile of what they need so much as the profile of what they already have. Replacement to league average. Curiously, he batted exactly .254 in Baltimore and Houston. But little or no power.

Wonder what the cash considerations are? Hopefully, they are about 50 million$ or so and the Astros can buy a team.

They acquired the lead singer of RATT?

Who – and or what – is RATT?

Why would they designate Laird for a useless pos like Pearce

    • Mr. Furious - Aug 27, 2012 at 4:46 PM

Well, he can hit AAA pitching, which is more than Laird has demonstrated the ability to do.

      • yanks33 - Aug 27, 2012 at 7:32 PM

Who cares if he can hit triple A pitching, Pearce wont even be called up in September, Laird was doing fine he had 15 homers and 77 rbis whats wrong with that? And Laird is only 24 yrs old who is a decent fielder

Isn’t this guy Ratt’s lead singer? His theme song should be “Round and Round.”

Heeeeey, why does he gets the thumbs up, I was first with the RATT reference.

      There’s no justice around here.

Free your mind from the tyranny of thumbs up or down. There is no justice. Your brightest thoughts will get trashed, and they will all love some stupid stuff you just throw off. Just write what you like. The small minds can’t influence you. :-)
