It was not a nasal decongestant, it was a training supplement!

I am fired up because taking something that is banned that gives you an advantage over your competitor that is playing by the rules is equal to stealing! As I mentioned earlier, I know many young kids playing by the rules that are getting passed up by cheaters, in effect, stealing from them and their perspective teams! The dude went out and purchased a training supplement, he needs to know what is in it! No Excuses! What he was taking WAS giving him an advantage because it 'boosts energy and masks fatigue".

His nose was not the culprit!

There is simply no reason to be so angry at someone and assume they are cheating. I wasn't assuming I was more intelligent than you....just assuming that you didn't read the story because your comments were in opposition to the facts. For example, meth is not a performance enhancer used to cheat. In addition, Methylhexaneamine has no documented performance enhancing properties...it is banned because MLB bans entire spectra of drugs regardless of their effects....Methylhexaneamine is a about the least effective "stimulant" anyone could take...which is why it isn't regulated and is used (along with many other things) in "energy drinks".

Not so fast, notsofast10. YOU should not assume anything. At all. See below:

"Aren’t supplements used to enhance performance?"

They certainly can be used that way. They can also be used to remedy a dietary deficiency, as with multivitamins. Since we don't know all the details, how about let's not leap to conclusions. Sound good? Good.

"...very seldom is it accidental..."

[citation needed]

It could also be an innocent mistake. You know, people DO make honest mistakes--except you, of course, and young minor leaguers. Ain't it great how young adults/developing ballplayers always make completely-thought-out decisions with perfect judgment and total maturity? It sure is remarkable how every minor leaguer everywhere always takes the time to cross-check the 132 ingredients on every bottle of multivitamins against baseball's list of banned drugs.

Again--since we don't know all the details, how about let's not jump to conclusions.

At any rate, none of this means that they don't deserve their suspensions. Not really sure why you're so fired up about it. They did the crime/made the mistake, and now they're serving (unpaid) time. And while these guys are out, their clubs can promote someone else into their places--look up Wally Pipp to understand the significance.

Stroman said "I unknowingly ingested a banned stimulant that was in an over-the-counter supplement."

Aren't supplements used to enhance performance? Baseball has rules regarding legal and illegal banned supplements because they can enhance performance. Ooooops, it was and accident doesn't cut it. If the rules were more harsh, you would see that amount of "accidents" dramatically decrease.

Paperlions.... recreational or accidental is a huge fail! And as far as "actually reading the story" you should not assume you are speaking to someone less intelligent than yourself, that might be hard to find.

Wow. Josh Sale was the Rays top hitting prospect last year (other than Jennings, who was more of an athlete prospect). Very disappointing. This explains why his career was in the toilet. I hope he straightens himself out and regains his potential.

I have to say this REALLY angers me! I know so many kids that are trying to make baseball their careers and when we have cheating bastards being rewarded and taking the spots, not to mention the money, from kids that are doing it right, I'm going to blow a gasket!!!

Baseball needs to make this zero tolerance and make the penalty for cheating similar to the punishment the USADA hands down! That would be a lifetime ban! If you choose to cheat, YOU LOSE.

So that's two weeks in a row with minor leaguers getting collared for meth (or two out of three anyway) which to me suggests a couple things.

First, if this was recreational then we should consider paying these kids more. By next year we could be seeing kids in low A ball with silver spray paint around their nose, and what sort of example would that set for the children?

Next, do you suppose this is allowing them to work out really hard? I mean, what if meth works, you know? Imagine a 35 hour gym session. Have we seen these guys? Are they huge, or just that weedy Ligue-like white trash build?

Finally, there's a lot of speed here. I wonder if these guys are just trying to slim down for football two-a-days as they return to school. Or maybe it's just August and they're having trouble staying awake out in the bullpen. It's a quandary.

At any rate, it's good to see the big name bonus babies are not above hanging out with the rest of the guys. I wonder what first rounder from 2012 will make the list?
