Cole Hamels won’t start tonight versus the Mets “due to a gastrointestinal illness”
Aug 29, 2012, 11:51 AM EDT
Cole Hamels has been scratched from his scheduled start tonight against the Mets and as this tweet from Todd Zolecki of MLB.com shows the Phillies left-hander probably isn’t having a very good morning:
Cole Hamels will not start tonight’s game against the New York Mets due to a gastrointestinal illness.

Tyler Cloyd, a 25-year-old right-hander who went 15-1 with a 2.26 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A, will make his big-league debut starting in place of Hamels.

Hopefully the Mets will be flummoxed since they likely didn’t anticipate this and are now scrambling for video on Cloyd.

Looks like Cole will be giving up plenty of runs tonight.

I eat a FiberOne bar every morning with breakfast, and it wreaks havoc on my insides, but hey all I have to do is fart it out and I can still show up to work and do my job every day…

Sucks for Cole but I’m pretty stoked. I was hoping to see Cloyd get some action this season against better competition. The kid looks very promising!

Looks like we now have proof that Hamels in, in fact, full of it.

Cloyd looks like a right handed Cliff Lee, awesome control, and been purely dominant in the minors. Excited to see him pitch in the bigs.
Feel better Cole!

I expected to see Cloyd pitch against the Yankees for the Iron Pigs tonight, now I’ll get the deaded bullpen game.

With the advances in technology like smart phones, tablets (e-tablets not Big Chief Tablets) & Kindles…gastrointestinal illness is a lot easier to deal with for todays players than it was say 10 years ago.

Um, Cole. Pepto works pretty good. It’s not like you play more than once a week. Suck it up buddy.

Awesome. Playoff time in my H2H league and my opponent has Hamels. Glad to hear he ate that Ex-Lax-laced chocolate brownie I sent him, with the message saying, “Enjoy!
” and signed “Grant Roberts.”

I thought this was what happened to the Braves when Chipper referenced them going “yicketty”
