How does Diamond get suspended and the dude for the Cardinals who threw at a Pirates player yesterday (in retaliation for bowling over the Cards catcher) not even get tossed?

The ejection of Diamond when Oswalt hadn’t even gotten a warning earlier in the game was an abuse of umpiring, so…even steven?

I was just thinking the same thing. They’re able to (somewhat) exploit the appeal system in order to minimize the consequences.

I remember someone a few weeks back mentioning that rather than being suspended X (amount of) games, they should be suspended X (amount of) starts. It didn’t go over well with the readers, but I can’t remember exactly why. This seems like the most viable option to avoid working around the appeal system, but someone right below me is going to explain why it’s dumb.

Diamond threw at Hamilton in retaliation for Roy Oswalt throwing at Joe Mauer earlier in the August 23 game and was ejected in the third inning.

Objection! Speculation, the writer has no idea what Diamond was thinking at the time the incident occurred.
