Always respected the guy, just not my thing. About five years ago my NJ buddy convinced me to go to a Bruce show with him and I was very impressed. I’ve been to a lot of shows in my life and only at a few have I ever seen a band play like that for 4 hrs with no set break. Gained a lot more respect for those guys that night, and have since bought a few albums. Overrated he is not.

It gets tiresome so quickly, even if it’s a song that we otherwise wouldn’t mind. The Kid Rock song a couple of years ago was awful; “Written in the Stars” had a catchy chorus at least, but hearing it like a thousand times a week can drive anyone nuts. Using a few different songs would have been nice.

As far as this year’s song goes, sometimes I feel guilty that I’m so indifferent about Bruce (no last name is necessary where I’m from because everyone knows who you mean). I mean, I’m from Jersey, born and raised. I like the guy’s politics and what he stands for. I just can’t really get into his music. “Born to Run” is a catchy song I suppose. If that means I’m a bad New Jerseyan, I’m sorry. I’ll probably get a lot of thumbs-down for saying I’m indifferent. I don’t actively dislike Bruce or his music. I just think it’s ehhhhh.

He’s massive in North America and is probably even bigger in Europe.

His guitar playing is very underrated. Back in the 70s he would shred the guitar, has very fast fingers. He learned to tone it down so that it doesn’t overshadow the songs or his performance as a whole. The guy is in his early 60s and still plays over 3 hours every time he goes on stage, and it’s always been like that. Having the respect of Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan and some of the greatest artists of all time…he can never be overrated. He deserves the highest rating there is. You should watch him play Born In The USA or some other song when he plays the 12 string guitar.

Bruce Springstein is the reason the term “overrated” exists. Sure, perhaps he’s an exceptional musician (he’s not), or perhaps just an exceptional singer (he’s not), but even if he’s pretty darn good (which he is) and has a great track record (he does), he sure the f@ck isn’t as good as everyone says/thinks he is. At least there’s factual evidence to back up the international, long-term fervor over The Beatles.
