As a fellow stuggling franchise the past decade+, the Mariners should understand that the Orioles finally have something going, and be willing to trade Felix Hernandez to Baltimore, assuming the Orioles are willing to “sell the farm” on all those “top prospects” they have been banking on the last couple years.

Felix would be put in an immediate position to win now, and compete for a playoff spot. He’d also get an even bigger spotlight playing in the AL East. Of course, perhaps that’s why he likes Seattle and prefers to stay… because he still is able to remain out of the spotlight playing for an otherwise below-average team that plays their home games very late.

Either way, would be awesome to see the O’s finally go after a top-tier player… and then to see just how far they can take this thing.

I understand the no trade would need to be waived for a trade to happen. But, if they just let the waiver claim go thru and the other team have it, would that go through? In other words, would a no trade help protect from the waivers themselves?

No trade clause still has to be waived, most recently that was the case with carl crawford i believe.

This waiver game has been going on for years, and out of all that time a superstar finally gets claimed and traded (Adrian Gonzalez). Now some people seem to be expecting a lot more similar trades.

If a player clears waivers, and has a no-trade clause and/or 10 and 5 rights – yes he must approve the trade before it can happen.

You, me, and every other fan of every team would love to have Felix pitching for their team, but it’s not gonna happen. Especially not for the Yanks, since they don’t have nearly enough pieces to get a deal done.

Swisher I can see. Jeter and Granderson are about as far from being “frat boys” as any player in baseball. Anyways, like it or not the Yankees are never going to be a small market team. The entitlement complex of a lot of Yankee fans is clearly obnoxious and over the top, and annoys me as much as anyone just because I don’t enjoy being associated with douchebags.

The Yankees don’t need to get Hernandez. This whole entitlement of New Yorkers is a total crock. Let him roll to another team going forward. MLB needs to incorporate the salary cap, otherwise you get the same old show every single year. Who wants to see that cackling keg stander Swisher win again? Or Curtis Roid’erson win time after time. Looking forward to when DJ and the rest of the frat boys are no longer playing, the Yanks need to feel like the way SD, Cleveland and any other middle class team does for a bit.

People are blowing this waiver claim stuff way out of proportion. It is not a big deal. All teams do it every year. In the Mariners case, I think you send the good pitchers thru waivers and hope guys like Millwood are ignored, and then you can maybe work a deal with any team. Throw a bunch of names out there and hope to slide the guys through that you may actually want to move.

Some in MN are going crazy that Mauer was on waivers and all up in arms about what it means. The only thing it really means is that the front office is doing their due diligence and not sitting on their thumbs.

One question I have wondered is when a player has a no trade clause, if another team claimed him, the first team couldn’t trade him without the player’s ok. But, could they just let a player go through waivers, and move him to another team that way?

Dodgers? No way Felix made it out of the AL. I’d bet it was Detroit or Angels. Would love for the Yankees to acquire him this winter.

Given his pedigree, status and accomplishments, I guarantee that the Dodgers were not the team who was awarded the claim on Felix.

If the Red Sox are going to make any such waiver claim – King Felix would be the one.

That said, while the Mariner’s first preference is to keep him and Felix has emphatically stated he’d like to stay, I have no doubt that the M’s are at least exploring their options . . . which is why they’d place him on waivers.
