Great Moments in Road Jerseys: San Francisco Giants edition

Here is Marco Scutaro during the fourth inning of last night’s Giants-Astros game:

I’ll say, I wasn’t the biggest fan of those Giants throwback, alternate road jerseys when they came out, but they’re growing on me some.  But, hey, Marco, why are you wearing that when your teammates were all wearing this:

Frankly, given how many alternate uniforms teams have now, I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often.

Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com has the story.

Did he play the entire game in a different jersey than that of his teammates?

You could actually read the article and know the answer to that question……

Color me puzzled, but aren’t there rules against this, i.e., a team member wearing a different uniform from that of his teammates?

There are rules, but these things usually go unnoticed.

Zack Greinke was called upon to pinch hit during his tenure with the Brewers and layed down a bunt while wearing a “Bierbrauer” jersey. Those jerseys were supposed to be worn the following day by the team to celebrate the area’s German heritage, but Zack apparently grabbed it by mistake one day early. Since the color and script are identical to the normal home alternate blues, nobody on the field of play seemed to notice.

The (excellent) “Giants Extra” blog reported that, Scutaro started the game in a uniform shirt matching his teammates. When it got soggy, he changed between innings and didn’t notice until he was in the field. So now it’s replaced the “rally thong”
