Just saw a morning after picture of Elliot Johnson’s face. He was smiling, but the face was rather raw. I give him a lot of credit for the effort he put into the play.

That’s a pretty good outfield the Beav has there. Twice gunning guys down and their catcher holding on for the hit. Props to the boys in the OF, but it was Mathis with his carcass on the line. Know what the new market inefficiency is? Catchers that were trained by Mike Scioscia. Rare as hen’s teeth and real good at playing catcher.

Rajai Davis threw out a runner at home in the second inning and Moises Sierra threw out Johnson at home in the 9th. Johnson made a great effort, but Mathis kept lower than Johnson and consequently Johnson ended up face first in the dirt and was bleeding from a few scratches on his face. Just a great play by Sierra, Mathis and Johnson and a heck of a way to end the game. Prior to the game, the Jays had their outfielders practice throws from the outfield and it paid off with the win.

On another note, there were 2 homeplate collisions tonight. (chipper). 3 this week. ALL CLEAN PLAYS, IMO. (coincidentally, all outs, too.)

The last play of the game with Mathis stonewalling Johnson attempting to score was in my opinion just as exciting as a walk off homer. Johnson looked really shaky getting to his feet after his face plant to the side of home plate.

Helluva throw by Sierra on that final out. Mathis did a great job blocking the plate and Johnson definitely got the worst of it. Nice win tonight by the Jays, good to see Morrow back.
