They sent him down because he was hitting terribly. There was no stand to take if they were always planning on calling him back up now to have him available for the postseason roster.

Sure it was dumb to punch a locker, but to suggest that he should be punished more than being injured is kind of petty. He made a mistake and he’s paying the consequences.

Actually his major league salary is less than double his minor league salary, but it’s still a nice bump – roughly an extra $50,000 total in pre-tax dollars for the remaining month of the season. The service time won’t make much of a difference to him – he’ll still be in the same service class at the end of the year that he would have been had he stopped earning major league service when he was originally sent down. So he does receive some benefit from the move, but it’s not a lot in the grand scheme.

You’re just yet another bitter wannabe journalist. Maybe once you start treating your hobby as a real profession you could be successful. But to do that you would actually have to practice some objectivity, which obviously you have none of.

Actually, he inaccurately called them the biggest dipwads…when all they did was the same dumb thing that every MLB team does…making them normal sized dipwads.

Negative hyperbole appears to be the flavor of the month….hopefully, September brings something new.

Right. So if the Royals don’t call up Myers this month, they could call him up in the first half of June next year and not have to worry about him being super-two eligible. If they did call him up for a month now, then they’d have to wait until mid-July to avoid the super-two possibility.

They do. Every day spent on the active roster or on the major league DL counts towards service time. Also, if a player is sent down but returns within 20 days, his time in the minors will still count as major league service time.

So now we’re pretending there’s something immoral that should be punished in a player momentarily losing his temper and harming himself??

His actions were immature, but he’s already been hurt (literally) and publicly shamed — does anyone think that’s not enough?

There’s an awfully thin acceptable area between players not caring enough and players getting too emotional. Why don’t we shave the morality judgements for the players driving drunk, throwing fastballs at heads or otherwise choosing to endanger others?
