The Yankees let him go because his back was questionable and they had better options. Aceves is a very good pitcher that has been handled poorly.

He was a good pitcher for the Yankees and he was a good pitcher for the RS last season. He was put in a role that didn’t suit his skill set and in fact did a pretty decent job of it anyway. I’d wager that his recent issues have a bit to do with Valentine’s overbearing management style.

It’s almost certain Aceves won’t be back with the RS next year. Odds are next season will have a much better year with an other team and the Nation will wonder why he had such a poor second half of 2012. Look no further than Valentine.
