He was going on a tear. He'd been learning up a new approach on the fly. Trouble with the new swing mechanics is not being sure what you can reach and what you should leave alone. He'd just about got it figured out it looked like. Then the foul tip into his throwing hand. They didn't really fold it till he went down. Then they had no answer for breaking balls, a pitch that you cannot throw JP Arencibia for a strike. Not if you want your baseball back. Another overlooked factor is that JP's quietly in charge of his space with just the right amount of words and rah-rah. People as calm and in charge as that are hard to replace. I believe he made the pitchers better. The Beav really missed him, and not just for his offence.

Cooper hit well once he was recalled. His back is the reason he has been shut down. The Jays aredoing some soul searching about training methods for first basemen as Lind and Encarnacion also had back problems.

By the way, Happ has been shut down with a broken foot.

That's been about the only silver lining, is seeing what these kids are made of. I missed the news that Cooper was done...he's an interesting guy, no? His bat intrigues me, although I must say he is one of the most awkward looking guys whenever he's running.

Well, we can't be much worse. I was going to question your statement on JP's offense until I double checked on his stats. I knew he was hitting very well before the injury, but I thought the average was still down in his usual .220-ish range...it's actually .242.

Cur- I thought Arencibia was really holding the offense together before he went down, allowing E5 to see some pitches in Joey's absence. Given how dispirited teh Beaver Men have seemed lately, can they pull it together to play with some spirit the last 3 weeks?

Nice to get them back; however, Bautista and Cooper are gone for the season. The numerous injuries to position players that followed the injuries to the starting pitchers led to a difficult season. On the other hand, several youngsters got a taste of the majors and found out what they have to do to improve. The kids have been learning on the job. Next year should be exciting.
