What you wrote was literally true. However, Mike Williams has the same number of career saves as Kevin Gregg but a worse ERA as a reliever.

That Kevin Gregg left the Feesh with the “proven closer” label affixed to him is proof, as if anyone except the creationists needed it, that the stupid gene, usually merely dominant, is even yet disproportionately expressed in the sportswriter population. We vividly remember how brutal he was, how what in the peetching hand of a competent closer is a pea-sized strikeout peetch became a beachball in Gregg’s. It’s been a dark past nine years for the Feesh, but watching other teams springing for Gregg with wads of cash in hand provided many moments of needed amusement in the meantime.

Kevin Gregg broke sabermetrics. Or at least the Pythagorean prediction model. In doing so, he allowed the O’s to sneak through most of the season without undue expectations, thus removing pressure from the team and improving the team’s play. He was worth every penny and then some.

Kevin Gregg is the new Moneyball.

As for Gregg, good riddance. What a waste of $10 mil. Maybe I could get a contract for sweeping out Angelos’ office for $500 grand. Seems like commensurate value.

The last time this due was effective he was pitching indoors in the rain against the mostly AAA Beaver Men. Those circumstances do not come up all that often. See ya Mr. Gregg.

YES!!! Bout time the O’s did this. The only good thing he did for us was show up David Ortiz a year ago, and that was pretty much it. Now we get Endy Chavez and LJ Hoes, who have put up solid numbers in the minors.
