the way the playoff games are laid out does,,but the second wildcard has definitely made it interesting. And here I didnt like it because i thought it would hurt the Phillies..go figure

17-5 is too short term to be considered anything but a fluke run. Same thing with that 41-25 record since June 29th, it’s just a good stretch, that’s all. Their last 15 games are against division/wildcard contenders. That will tell you how next year might go.

Yeah it has been an impressive turnaround for the Padres.. Probably came a little too late this year, but they may be a surprise team next year.

I’ve been waiting for the Padres to catch fire for months now and it’s finally happening! Of course, there’s nothing to play for but pride, and getting a leg up on jobs for next season.

“San Diego has an NL-best 17-5 record since Aug. 19 and has taken 21 of its last 27 games at home.”

They can avoid a losing record by winning 12 of their final 18 games, nearly all of which are division games. Difficult but not impossible, especially if LA and Milwaukee fall out of contention and give up. Naturally, they probably won’t and every game will be a bitter struggle.

Hot streak or not, it’s amazing that the Padres are even within shouting distance of .500, given all their pitching injuries and lineup holes.

I’ve been waiting for the Cards to catch fire for months now and it just ain’t happening.

I’m not a huge fan of the new playoff system…I think it devalues the regular season way too much. Atlanta has a 6 game lead in the Wild Card for god’s sake. But boy is it making the stretch run more interesting. I guess I don’t hate it as much as I thought I did…
