Clearly Boras is losing his edge. SFX was able to pull the strings on the exact same 160 IP limit for Jordan Zimmermann last year.

Maybe they just had poor communication? Yocum could have certainly let the team know of the worst case scenario, then said he thinks Straus is fine to pitch. I could see where the team isn’t willing to accept the same risk as a doctor who doesn’t have money tied up in the game and isn’t concerned with managing a baseball team full of young talent that has hopes of making repeated runs at the playoffs.

Reading between the lines: Mike Rizzo decides to shut down Strasburg after 160 IP. Mike Rizzo realizes his team is good and this decision may be unpopular given playoff implications. Mike Rizzo decides he will talk to doctors and use those discussions for PR purposes. Mike Rizzo asks doctors, including Dr. Yocum, questions about elbows. Mike Rizzo never asks Dr. Yocum if Strasburg should stop pitching – he is not interested in that answer. Washington Post asks Dr. Yocum if Mike Rizzo asked if Strasburg should stop pitching. Dr. Yocum says no. Scott Boras says stuff prefaced by “To my knowledge”. There you go. No liars. Just foolishness.

Boras only cares about his client, not the Nationals. He is throwin his slop in to extend Straus’s career, like to the point he is a free agent and he can shop him. He is not doing the Nat’s fans any favor here.

Scott Boras is the kind of person that makes me sick. No amount of money is enough for this scumbag. He knows Strasburg is a major meal ticket and intends to cash in as hard as he can. So he can add to the hundreds of millions he’s already made from the talent of other people. Too bad if a team’s playoff chances are reduced – he’s going to make his money.

That was my point; I just didn’t say it right. He’s already gone out of his way to say he had nothing to do with it, to the “methinks-he-doth-protest-too-much” point. Too bad Rizzo is in his back pocket; the funnest thing at this point would be for him to come out and say, “Look, all of this was Scott’s idea in the first place! We were just doing what he wanted!”

I could be wrong but I trust the good DR. on this one, he doesn’t have a reason to lie but Boras and the Nats do to take the pressure off of their decision and make it seem like it was backed up with science. Let me go get the popcorn ready this is good stuff.
