Bowa would be the worst choice. His temper is border line bi-polar and he has been a polarizing element on all teams he has worked for. Typical short man, short dick complex. A bargain basement knockoff of Billy Martin, without the rings.

If I were the general manager of a rebuilding team, one of the many things I would not want is a manager who flips out every time things go wrong. Bowa is that kind of manager. Patience is the key, and Bowa has repeatedly proven he doesn’t have any.

Many organizations hire coaches without the manager’s input (or at least without giving him carte blanche to hire whoever he wants)…the minor and major league parts of organizations are more integrated now, and organizations want to make sure that they have guys with the same approach and buying into the same concepts/approaches at all levels.

Umm, Ron Washington was a coach for the Mets for 5 years, then with Oakland for 10+ (and is famously in Moneyball to help Hatteberg convert to first) and Mike Maddux has been a pitching coach since he retired in ’00.

Why won’t these teams talk to Sanberg or Billy Ripken, it’s seems everyone wants a retread, go new direction like Tex did, hire baseball players to manage not a bunch of geezers. If your going to retread coach hire Francona at least he’s won.

Are you kidding? The Astros need to hire at least 14 more Vice Presidents in charge of the same job for their analysis group. Then they need 40 department heads, at least 200 sub-department heads, 800 special assistants to the General Manager, 14,000 assistants the President of Operations (1500 will be desinnated “special”. The rest will just sulk) They need 4 Vice Presidents of redundancy and 200 assistants each for them. They have 35 jobs open for “Staring at Computer Screens All Day.” And 5 private detectives to track every move Bill James makes.

Who has time to hire a manager?
