cricellers……Aces are pitchers that stop the opposing team, CC has not been able to do that this year, you look at the stats this year compared to the last few and you’ll see he’s not what he was. I stated he has a lot of miles on that arm, and his fastball (or lack thereof) show it. His once 95 to 96 mph is down to 91 to 92, a dramatic drop off. I watch every Yankee game and he’s not fooling the opposing teams, it seems they’ll sit on a pitch and when it comes they nail it. I still say he’s a 2 or 3 starter, Kuroda, and in his last few starts Hughes seem to be more dependable than CC. Facts are facts and he’s far from what he was the last few years, that’s my opinion, and you have yours, look at the other posts and your opinion is the least popular, but your entitled to it.

“CC not an Ace on this team or anywhere else” , these are your words, and your words make little sense? NObody who knows anything about the game of Baseball would utter that statement? Yet here we are?
Admit tingly it looks to be a hard 5 or so games for the ACE but that being said a 5th grader could look at his stats and do the math, so I guess my question is, (dramatic pause) why didn’t you? Remember there are “opinions” and then there are facts so Before you write a comment based on your personal opinion try doing a little research first.

As odd as it sounds, I was much worried about facing Nova(who is mediocre but we make him loom like a Cry Young candidate) and Kuroda than Sabathia. He just doesn’t strike fear into opposing teams the way that he used to. Still an above average pitcher, no question, but I think he’s definitely dropped out of “ace” territory.

Blame it on an injury if you want, but while Sabbathia has logged a lot of innings and been generally pretty effective during the regular season sinced he signed, he has not been the big game shutdown ace that the Yankees or fans expected when he signed that huge contract.

The weight only becomes an issue when he is not pitching at a cy young level. CC reminds me of David Wells or Mickey Lolich. A heavy guy who can flat out pitch no matter what his weight.

I know Dennis Eckersley won the Cy Young in 1992 for Oakland. Willie Hernandez won it for Detroit in 1984 the year they won the World Series. And I’m pretty sure a few other closers have won it as well.

Overall, Sabathia has a 3.93 ERA since returning from the DL. He has pitched at least 6 1/3 innings in each of his five starts since then. A couple more balls than normal left the park, but otherwise it looks like his typical performance. I don’t see anything to suggest that he’s still hurt.

Yes, that was the year he had 94 saves, and a 175/3 k to bb in 65 innings.

Not so fast. Sabathia is a slow starter that usually does his best work from June on. He was looking like the same pitcher he always was until he ended up in the DL.

I agree that he hasn’t looked his best this year but to suggest that he’s no longer the pitcher he once was because he’s had a couple of nagging injuries is more than a bit premature.

signed extension with NY Yankees 10/31/11
12-15:$23M annually, 16:$25M, 17:$25M vesting option ($5M buyout)

But look at the bright side pis. He is only signed through 2016 at an AAV of $25.5M. Not bad for a #2 or #3 starter. The Yankers’ will be just fine. (Wait till that 2017 option kicks in).

Heck, you are the Yankers’, just go buy some better pitching. Opps. I forgot. There is that pesky $189M thing in 2014. It must be tough to be playing equal with clubs that spend barely 1/4 as much. (But remember, the Yankers’ DO NOT buy championships. They are just naturally superior to everyone else. And anyone who mentions their payroll is just jealous.)

Bunch of old stuperstars who will just get older while the Yankers’ are up against it payroll wise in a mear year and a half. Priceless.

CC isn’t an ace on this staff or any other. He’s at best a no.2 or no.3, his fastball is at 91 to 92 and he isn’t fooling anyone. He’s like Beckett and a few others that have been around for a while, they have a lot of innings on those arms. Any team that gives a pitcher more than a five year contract is looking at the very same thing down the road, but it will keep happening.

Closers have won the award in the past. The way the game is played today, there’s not really any reason they should. Absolutely no reason to think that a guy who pitches 75 innings can have nearly the impact of a pitcher who racks up 200-225 innings.
