I am trolling him – though not necerssarily on purpose. I do like his stuff, or obviously I would not read. And I do get a kick out him, and he make lots of great points (expect on anything PED related)

But on this one, it is odd he seems to be mocking the Mets/NYC legal system for coming down on a potentially dangerous situation (look at the Tom Gamboa attack). I’ve got a good half decade on Craig, but I know he too is old enough to remember when fans running on the field was not that unusual. Frankly, everyone is better off that it now IS so unusual, and the court was absoultely right to send (and broadcast) a message that running on the field is not going to cost you.

Running on the field is – in fact – a far worse offense then being a cad to Miguel Cabrera

If the Mets want to engender some fan good will, they should announce they they are foregoing the collection of the $4,000 in civil penalties. This dope has been punished enough, and after all he was trying to celebrate a glorious moment in franchise history rather than trying to disrupt the game.

The comparison with horse theivery, however, is not valid in NYC. There are plenty of horses used for hansom cabs in and around Central Park, and plenty of privately owned horses. I suspect people steal them about as often as NYC fans in general have something to celebrate by rushing onto the field.

I agree. That is a pretty large fine. Another thing to put into perspective is this guy runs onto a field, while Casey Anthony kills her kid and some how the guy that runs onto the field is paying 5000 while the other didn’t get any penalty.

Really stupid to run onto the field, and then miss your kids first birthday for being in jail for running onto the field! Muts won’t be giving their fans too many opportunities to do this but you’ve got to set a precedent for the Yankees in case one of their fans goes knucklehead.
