He “evaluated” their worth when he traded for them, in essence saying “I’m fine with the dollar amounts attached to these guys”.

That is part of the entire process, not one you just toss out and say “oh well, I didn’t sign the guy to the initial contract”.

When you make a trade you’re evaluating the whole thing. Who do I give up? How much am I on the hook for in doing this?

Okay…. Feel better? I, for one, am happy with my current lineup, and I don’t see it as a waste of money. Gonzalez is who the Dodgers have wanted for quite a few years as he is selling jerseys and knocking in runs while playing a strong 1B. If the team owner can afford him, then it’s worth the investment.

Crawford on the hook for over a hundred million, Beckett could implode and turn on everyone in a minute, Hanley Ramirez is just “Manny waiting to happen” again…

As for Nicky, a mixed bag to say the least. Not sure I would commit that far into the future on him. Farm system has taken a big hit on deals that haven’t done much (75-70 record?).

So the New Dodgers are going to have to be like the Fed Gov the next few years: spend like there’s no tomorrow to have a chance at the playoffs every year.

Keep on eye on Kershaw. A bad hip is a big deal for a pitcher. Hope it is not a long term lingering deal. He is a class act with a great future.
