I don’t care how much of a Yankee fan you are, there is NO fanbase worse than the Phillies. They booed during the Phillies World Series ring celebration. Then there’s the Phillies fan that made himself puke on an off duty cop’s daughter… throwing batteries at JD Drew… booing some hand transplant patient for not throwing a strike during first pitch, etc.

While I can’t speak for Bard, Iglesias was considered one of the best defensive SS in the minors. And people need to realize that SS isn’t the same as it was it the late 90s with Arod/Jeter/Nomar/Tejada. It’s reverted back to a defensive first position, with the bat being a bonus (like catchers) so Iglesias still has a ton of value. No sense embarrassing your SS on national TV however.

I don’t think they’re doing the team any harm by not letting him go. It’s just stupid that they haven’t, since it’s clearly about pride at this point. Am I wrong to assume that? He’s already lost the clubhouse, fans and media. Bone headed moves like these aren’t helping his case, and he seems well aware of it.
