My whole point campaigning for Oswalt taking the 5th spot in the rotation was that Feldman had not turned things around. A string of quality starts is not predictive that his next one will also be quality. We should not be disillusioned by the most recent results. He had a pleasant lucky streak, but regression to being Scott Feldman was bound to happen. Feldman isn't this bad either, but he is a replacement-level starter. We have seen enough of him to know his talent, and it is not worthy of a spot in an MLB rotation.

Not only were Perez' innings scoreless on Saturday, they were hitless as well, with only one BB. Removing Feldman from the rotation was a move that needed to be made. He looked like he had turned things around awhile back, but those days are gone.

As the race in the AL West tightens up, the 5th starter spot gets increasing attention. For the A's, Dan Straily fills that role after the injury to McCarthy bumped everyone else up in the rotation. Straily was on display yesterday. The Angels are unsettled at # 5 also, with Jerome Williams. If any team gets an edge there it could be worth a win before the end of the season, and one win in the next 16 games could be very important as tight as things are becoming.
