I’m a Philies fan. I respect the hell out of the old bastard, but this just doesn’t seem to make sense. Yeah, he’s old school and I guess you could say he would try to teach a bunch of young guys “how to play the game the right way”. The problem is that he’s famous for his lack of patience with players. Let’s face it, the players in San Diego and Philly went in full mutiny mode on him during his time there as manager. This was 10-15 years apart so it’s not like he learned his lesson in San Diego. It’s easy to say that the players today are too soft and they need a kick in the ass sometimes but there is a fine balance that’s needed and Larry hasn’t shown that in either of his two managerial stops. Hope it works out for him though. Whoever takes that job is pretty much a sacrificial lamb for four or five years.

Larry Bowa’s primary attribute is yelling at people. Aside from that, I’ve never seen him get any reputation for instruction or developing talent.

But he yells!

And he’s got fire in the belly.

Or maybe that’s a peptic ulcer.

He sounds like a good fall back for when all of the higher choice statistics-oriented guys come to their senses. The time to want that job is Spring 2015. Whoever takes it now is going to take a whipping.

I like Larry. He’s a smart baseball guy, and has a lot of fire under his belly. I think a young team like Houston, especially a young team transitioning leagues, could use some experienced leadership as much as anything else.
