Backman blowups could be more entertaining than the Mets themselves. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, but it would certainly draw fan interest.

Thank you. I’m sure there are lots of people who think that because Toronto is in another country and Buffalo and NYC are in the same state, Buffalo must be closer to NY than Toronto.

Once a team has quit, you have to change managers. I would rather watch them lose with Wally Backman in the dugout than this platoon-loving clown Terry Collins. Collins talks about accountability but he doesn’t enforce that at all. I guarantee you Wally Backman will.

Not to mention how epic his blow ups will be.

Have at it. But they spend no more money than the Mets do. They have a good farm, but the Mets have tons of pitching in the minors as well. Its not going to make one bit of difference in their attendance. The lower levels of the Mets farm are actually very good.

I would agree though, that the proximity is a good reason to go with Toronto.

As a Mets fan (there, I’ve said it) I beieve there have been times when some of the Mets players have no given their best effort. That is the only way to explain the otherwise inexplicable path this team has taken this year. It seemed that once they lost a few games after the All-Star break, they just started to believe they had no business contending and just gave up.

Collins should not have apologized and “clarified”. Players who are real competitors would respect him more for calling out the quitters. As it is, he comes off looking like a wuss, telling the truth and then backtracking. If I want that kind of garbage, I’ll take more interest in politics.

As for Buffalo, it may simply be a case of (a) their deal with the Mets expiring, (b) Toronto offering more money, (c) Toronto’s proximity to Buffalo, and perhaps (d) Buffalo saying, “If we must be a AAA team, let’s be a AAA team for a real major league operation”.

Backman was the right choice in 2010 and he’s still the right choice. Everyone knows there’s a lack of talent there, but at least Backman will get the full potential out. These guys have quit on Collins two years running.

As for Buffalo, Backman lost Matt Harvey, Josh Edgin and Jordany Valdespin to the big club in the summer. That would impact most ballclubs, wouldn’t it? Their attendance has been in free fall long before the Mets got there and the team and local media has used the Mets as a scapegoat. And the attendance woes will continue with the Blue Jays farm club. Then the Jays will get blamed. Buffalo thinks they are running a major league club over there and they don’t accept that many AAA rosters are littered with organizational depth.

It wouldn’t at all shock me if Collins is out at the end of the year. AAA Manager Wally Backman, who many Mets fans wanted instead of Collins, might be having a worse year, however.

The Bisons finished so poorly, and the fans thought so negatively of their play, that they got booted out of Buffalo. The Mets AAA squad next season will be in nearby Los Vegas.
