Got to meet Gio, his mom and his sister Angie during/after the game yesterday. Wonderful, generous people and Gio is so humble and grateful to be on this team. If being a nice guy from a great family counts for anything, then Gio should win the Cy.

You got that right about the Gio love. I’m in the parking lot of the shopping center where I work, and someone asks me, “Did Gio win?” Then I go to Target and I have my Nats “Gonzalez” jersey on, and a guy comes up and says, “Gio, Gio!” Everyone respects Strasburg and is in awe of the Kid, but they LOVE Gio. (Well, OK, we do love the Kid and Stras, but it’s Gio’s day today.)

I am a Nats fan and root for Gio, but even I have to say that Dickey’s season is more impressive and he deserves the nod at this point. Still a start or two to go for both guys, but come on: he plays for a rotten, putrid team and he pitches deep into games, Ks a ton of batters, and is as dominant as any pitcher in the league this year. Is Gio Gonzalez more talented and will he be better over the course of his career than Dickey for the remainder of his? Yes and probably. But RA Dickey has been amazing this year and, though we all want to twist the stats to find a way for Gio to look better, the truth is that Dickey is a great choice for Cy Young and you don’t have to work as hard to justify his case.

Even more love for Gio in Nats Town, if that’s possible. Not just for his performance, but for the joy with which he plays the game and the classy way he conducts himself.

It would be great if Gio won the Cy Young. Duh. But I see a half-dozen good candidates. Yes, that includes Craig Kimbrel. Gio should not be awarded just for his number of wins, and should not be penalized just because he pitches for a good team.

I’d pick Dickey. He has 1 less win on a team that has 30 less wins than the Natinals. Not to say Gonzalez wouldn’t deserve it but Dickey is doing it with a lot less talent around him. And lets face it, W/L record for pitchers is the worst stat to go bu when it comes to awards.

I must have missed the part where he said that’s how he would vote. It’s a valid point because we all know there are plenty of voters who evaluate pitchers this way.

While i agree Gio should win, your attack on Dickey is kind of more of a reason to endorse him. A pitcher pitching that well on a bad team, with that bullpen, that offense, is remarkable. But voters all know that Dickey throws a knuckleball, which almost promises he should have a ton of innings. Throw on the fact that the Mets bullpen may be the worst in the majors and of course he goes deep as often as he could. I dont expect innings pitched to be a major factor to voters under such circumstances. Hence why if Gio finishes strong, with 21 or 22 wins and a 2.7 to 2.8 era, i think he will take home the hardware.
