What if, what if, what if . . .

What if there had been a positive test on Clemens. Oh. there wasn’t.

What if someone other than a dirty non-credible jock sniffing dealer with the feds ob his case had testified that he gave Clemens peds? Oh, there wasn’t one.

What if the feds could convict such an obvious liar of perjury or lying to Congress? Oh, they couldn’t.

You hate Clemens, you believe he should be smeared by any means necessary.

God bless America. Try getting some credible evidence. No matter what you may want to believe, it was a garbage case.

What if there was this guy, who pitched at the very same time as Roger Clemens, and put up virtually the same career numbers as Roger Clemens? And suppose he did it with a standard career arc? (ie had his peak season at the age of 28, rather than, ahem, age 42.) And what if that pitcher actually had two of the top 5 pitcher seasons EVER by ERA+?

I think there might be a case for that guy.

If I’m Bud Selig, I make an immediate announcement–

“Mr. Clemens will be tested every freaking day. Any pitcher on the same staff with Clemens will be tested weekly. Any other player on the same team with Mr. Clemens will be tested bi-weekly. This is being done under the “best interests of baseball” clause, and if the Players Association doesn’t like it, see you in court; and if Mr. Clemens doesn’t like it, too bad, who gives a f**k what he thinks.”
