The Yankees do the rookie hazing thing a little bit differently than other teams

Sep 24, 2012, 12:03 PM EDT

Some people say that dressing up your rookies in women’s clothes during the de rigueur late season hazing is degrading and possibly homophobic.  I don’t feel too strongly about that. I think it’s kinda lame and unimaginative, but whatever you want to do, go ahead.

Extra points to the Yankees, though, for breaking with that and going in a different direction.  I mean, they didn’t even sex-up David Phelps into the metal bikini version of Princess Leia when they dressed their rookies up like Star Wars characters.

What? No Jawas? There should always be Jawas. Can’t beat a good Jawwa Looking rookie.

Man, I think only Eddie Gaedel would fit in a Jawa Costume…

I bet Craig has never been on a team in any team sport. It’s about creating the feeling of team, Craig. Jeez.

….because nothing creates a sense of “team” like seeing guys in women’s clothing? That’s what your going with? Sorry, I never felt a bond with people that thought forcing people to do degrading things was funny.

Really? Just four rookies? The A’s rookie hazing picture is basically the whole damn team:

Funny that Kenji Nimura is included in the hazing. He’s been through it before with the Dodgers:

Maybe he just really likes Yoda. Lord knows that if the Mets did this particular dress-up, RA Dickey would undoubtedly break out his own Vader costume.

Melky Mesa? Well, this is September, time of “who he?” At least they gave the Darth Vader costume to the rookie with one career game played and zero career AB.

      “Luke–I am your outfielder.”

What? No Princess Leia in slave costume? And I know he’s not a rookie, but Joba should have still dressed as Jabba, or is that too obvious? Still, I’ll give them credit for creativity. (I’m complimenting the Yankees? Who am I?)

Who are you? You’re Sally of course. Did you bump your head? Better go on the 7 day DL if you did. Can’t have you staggering about the place and all.

Obviously, you are someone influenced by a Jedi mind trick. My condolences.

Is Eric Chavez aware of this? I believe he would consider this to be high-schoolish, pretty unprofessional, and crossing the line.

Their Luke Skywalker has a red lightsaber, which everyone knows only a Sith uses.

    That’s the Yankees alright.
