That’s an incredible number of PAs without a GIDP while hitting behind guys who are supposed to get on base a lot. Really interesting stat.

64 chances is up there, definitely a pretty cool accomplishment he had going… until today… at the worst possible time.

FWIW, Pete Reiser was the highest non-leadoff hitter on the list. 537 plate appearances for the 1942 Dodgers, most of them as a No. 3 hitter. Also, Rob Deer had 511 PAs for the 1990 Brewers without hitting into one.

It’s true. Still, he had 64 chances to hit into a double play (PAs with runner on first and less than two outs). He was hitting .298 with just five strikeouts in those situations.

White Sox 7 8 & 9 hitters for most of the season, with their current OBP

#7 Dayan Viciedo .293 OBP

#8 Alexei Ramirez .290 OBP

#9 Gordon Beckham .299 OBP

And they can all hit the long ball, with 46 combined home runs. And only 77 walks. Batting behind these guys is a great way to rack up only one GIDP up to this point.
