I actually agree with Beltre on this. If you won’t name names, shut your trap. Otherwise all you accomplish is to cast suspicion on the innocent as well as the guilty. If Gagne is right, then 20% of his former teammates are now open to questions that they don’t deserve. And to assume that the worst 8 players on the team are the only ones above suspicion is idiotic. What if Beltre really IS clean? I don’t have a dog in that fight, but he’s certainly right that it isn’t fair that he has to answer questions because Gagne has a mouth but no balls.

Instead of naming the people who took PEDs, cause that would be like you know, ratting people out…maybe he should tell us the names of the people who did not use them? Plus, it’d be easier to type.

Well, no, we’re not “convinced”. That’s a fairly high standard to meet, isn’t it? I, for one, am not convinced that any MLB player did not use steroids in any give season between, say 1985 and present day.

But that doesn’t mean that I think anyone in particular did use in any given season. And even if I did, I probably wouldn’t go around throwing out baseless accusations.

Look, in the state of MLB today, I would not be surprised over ANY player being suspended tomorrow. Not Jeter, not Moyer, nobody. We know there are players that cheat, and we know that there are those that don’t (though, it’s actually quite hard or impossible to prove you didn’t cheat if you’re suspected of it). To think that baseball is predominantly clean these days is probably pretty naive. While MLB testing is strict when compared to other leagues, it’s pretty weak compared to cycling or Olympic sports. To think that at least some of the players, with access to fairly vast amounts of money, haven’t found ways around the testing is ridiculous. It’s certainly not as easy to cheat, and maybe the cheating has a smaller impact on performance, but I would guess that it’s still there to a greater extent than the few players that get caught.

Do you apply this logic to all career years? Did he then stop taking them? What’s your explanation for down years? Performance is talent + luck. In any year we are unaware of the combination of these two variables.

Beltre had a huge offensive year when he should have been approaching his peak. Then he moved to Safeco. After moving out of Seattle, he has had 3 of his 4 best offensive seasons, when he should be starting his decline phase.

Your ignorant and lazy accusations of steroids serve no purpose.

Here’s the problem with his math…..80% of the 40 man roster is 32.

But he didn’t say 80% of the roster. He said 80% of his teammates, of which there are only 39.

So that means 31.2 players + Gagne (32.2 players on the 40 man roster).

This begs the question what is the deal with that .2? I don’t remember David Eckstein playing for the Dodgers.
