Dallas needs to tell the real story about being attacked while he was driving. This was a road rage incident and he was the aggressor. This isn't the first time either. At the rally he showed his real immaturity by not being able to speak civilly and screaming as he has done in the past. He is upset because yes his grandmothers house was burglarized. Since the police dept is so short handed and violent crime has skyrocketed the police have to require people of non violent crimes not in progress and with no known suspects to file a crime report via phone or computer as most large city police departments have had to resort to in order to allow officer to respond to in progress violent crimes. Dallas to my understanding showed his high opinion of himself and name dropped and expected to get special treatment for his grandmother and have officers come out to take the report. A class act Dallas is not.

I think that's exactly the point Kevin, Stockton was never a garden spot, but it has gotten really bad. There are several cities and towns in CA that have had to declare bankruptcy as some of the rosier of their numerous rosy civic funding scenarios wilted and died. It's a long story, going back to the dot com boom and all that tax money from options sales floating around, then not floating around, then housing and property taxes floating upwards, then not...you get the idea. The State, which had based many of their projections on the same rosy assumptions, then stepped in and took certain local tax receipts into the state coffers, which they can do here, and that broke some of the cities and towns.

We can get all political about the assumptions that were made, who made them, etc. Bottom line is that both sides of the aisle were all in on one or another boom continuing, and both sides were proven wrong.

Places like Stockton had to do the austerity thing in a big way because there simply was no money to pay for all the promises and the State couldn't back-stop them. So policing, fire, pensions, etc.everything got cut back. Some places are handling their situation better now, like Vallejo, but some still haven't come to grips with it, like Stockton. Vallejo's made tremendous use of volunteers to help its situation, but Stockton is about 3x the size of Vallejo, which makes the problems larger and more complex, and Vallejo's median household income is 50% greater than Stockton.

It is not a pretty situation. And let's be honest, Braden hasn't earned a reputation as a deep thinker, so he's just feeling it, especially because he is very emotional and he's tried to do a lot for his home town.

And even if he were the cerebral type, the solution to the problems there are not obvious, and they will take a substantial amount of time to discover, implement and see through to conclusion.

If he's as responsible for giving back to his community as he claims, then yes, he has every right to berate the powers that be to have a safe community.

Good for him for speaking his mind. I wouldn't want to live in that dump either. I grew up down the road in Tracy and if I remember correctly (and its been a while) Stockton has always had this stigma, no?
