There’s “mutual interest” between Terry Francona and the Indians

Sep 28, 2012, 10:30 AM EDT

Yesterday we heard that the Indians had made contact with Terry Francona about their fresh managerial vacancy. The question was whether Francona would truly be interested in an Indians job that presented (a) a rebuild; and (b) less money than he made in Boston.  To that end, Peter Gammons throws this out there this morning:

Interesting. Sandy Alomar is a fan favorite and, according to some, the favorite among several Indians players. Of course, Indians players probably aren’t the determining factor here given that, as a group, they’ve not won anything and the bulk of them likely won’t be around the next time the Tribe wins anything.

As for Francona, it’ll be interesting to see if he really wants to go into a situation where rebuilding is going down as opposed to taking over a more veteran-laded team seemingly closer to contention.  Although, given what Baltimore and, to a lesser extent, Pittsburgh did this year, the line between rebuilding and contending is a lot thinner than it used to be.  That’s probably especially true in the AL Central.

Please Tito. For the love of God and all that is holy DO NOT GO TO CLEVELAND.

It’s an armpit of a city to begin with, but the team is in NO place to win any time soon.

AND, you’re going to have to deal with Chris Perez.

Who the hell would want ANY of that? Not me.

      1) Cleveland can’t be all bad. It does have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 2) the fire on the river was doused years ago. 3) Perez can be traded. Boston might be a good place for Perez.

Wow Will. I see your glass is half empty this morning huh? Geesh Man! It’s Friday.
      Turn that frown upside down.

      1) The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is reeks of political favoritism and is therefore an unforgivable waste of time.
      2) The fire you speak of burns with white hot ember as the team has sucked pretty bad post All-Star break for 2 years now. Wasn’t this supposed to be the time we see the prospects come up and KINDA put the fire out?
      3) Perez should be traded. He’s a dink and is VERY angry.
      4) The glass is now fully empty because it is Friday. Getting my drink on as we speak.

      Drink up baseball fans.

“Getting my drink on as we speak.”

No pitching. No prospects. No money.

    Let Alomar take the job.

Don’t hate on C town unless youve lived there for one and don’t act like francona is above taking a job where his ideals will echo thru an organization. A chance to take a young group with some talent and rebuild a winning culture again is way more admirable as a fan and more rewarding as a coach (See Bucky with the O’s)

And as I said just earlier this week, Francona has ties in Cleveland. He was even thinking about coming here as Special Assistant to the GM before he took the ESPN gig. He would also automatically command respect. So if I had a choice, it would either be Terry, or Sandy. First two choices there.

The Dodgers would be stupid to let this opportunity pass them by. I always felt that Donnie ball has run it’s coarse,he was just an economic replacement for Joe Torre, anyway! I think the Dodgers and Terry Francona are a good match ,and probably what the Dodgers need to kick them in the ass!The only one, out of the current Dodger coaching staff I’d bring back ,is the first base coach Davey Lopes.

Donnie ball has run it’s course? He has been at the helm for about 3 minutes.

Do you seriously think that Francona want any part of the three former Red Sox players?

Is the chicken any good there?
