The band was Celtic Mayhem: http://www.celticmayhem.net/ They're an Irish offshoot of a Macondo area band called Three Jacks, which does medieval, renaissance and victorian British and Irish high octane folk in the manner of Steeleye Span or Fairport Convention.

They've got a performance of "Whiskey in the Jar" on YouTube someplace. And yeah, they really do look like that. FYI their "Whiskey" is right up there with the Grateful Dead's version, except the Dead had no fiddle that night and Celtic Mayhem never unleashed a pennywhistle that I can recall, And the fiddler is ackcherley a marine biologist from the Virginia Key marine research center. He specializes in something weird, like sulfur metabolism in deep ocean vent worms or what have you. Hellish fiddle player, though.

I was contemplating the genius of Peter Angelos during a steam punk acoustic celtic band performance at the good ole Luna Star Cafe last night while watching between tunes on my cellphone video as the Feesh and Feelies dragged their game along for over four hours to its more or less inevitable conclusion. The genius of Angelos has a timeless quality that made the perpetual monotony of the Feesh game irrelevant. Only the Iron Giant''s π inning popup that landed by the Budweisass sign in deep center field ruptured the ennui of watching Ricky Nolasco's evil pod twin gag up a four run lead and then watching the boolpen take eleven parsecs to pad the agony. Time and space: that dilated temporal duration on that little, retina-detaching screen.

Ah, but what of that. I do love discussing the Babbage difference engine with marinated barmates to rollicking old Irish folk songs, though, and I hope to live long enough until someone composes a second tune. Meanwhile, did you know that the theme song to Gilligan's Island was a madrigal? No? Well, it is. Humm it slowly to yourself.
