Who else is he gonna start against lefties? Ibanez hadn’t been hitting anything against anyone and Chavez is a streaky hitter and with Gardner out that left him no one until we got Ichiro, who now plays every day…And if you think Phelps is superior to Nova/Garcia you haven’t been watching…I like Phelps a lot but he squeaks through 4 innings, giving up walk after walk and putting runners on left and right, and maybe makes it through 5 if we’re lucky…We need to get Nova right for next season if we want the payroll down and the only way to get him right is to have him pitch and Freddy Garcia has been solid in spot starts…And it’s not Girardi’s fault he has those bench players: It’s on management to bring up some young guys to take those spots (Melky Mesa, Cervelli, Nunez, etc.)…I would much rather see them than our current bench of 2001 All-Stars

his contract was up….they offered a contract. Torre was insulted and everyone moved one. Separation, yes..no one got fired.

After his suspension, to his credit, George Steinbrenner seemed to realize his methods were not helping, and that he had presided over pretty much the worst era in Yankee history–the bulk of the 80s and early 90s. For a guy that age to change his business approach is pretty savvy, and it worked.

Thats because the questions has already been asked. And answered. And hes coming back, which he should. But the question of should he be fired, always asked, every year, like clockwork. Asked up and down the all-star break. Did you forget? Do a google, bing, yahoo search. Page after page with the question, should Manuel be fired. Was stating a fact not taking a shot.

The Phillies aren’t making the playoffs, and I haven’t heard anyone call for Charlie Manual to get fired. Maybe you should focus on filling up your own stadium when you’re playing well and stop taking shots at Philadelphia.

And still starting Andruw Jones vs LHP (despite the fact he hasn’t hit LHP worth a damn all year, STILL not recognizing the fact that Hughes ERA jumps to over 7.00 in the 6th inning or later, using Garcia/Nova in rotation about 10 times this year when a superior Phelps was available, playing station-to-station at some points when the lineup featured Nix/Pearce/Jones/Martin all at the same time (to name just a few) doesn’t fall in to that category?
