This is the exact kind of selective data I was talking about. Yep, Pujols hit 3 home runs in a game. But in games 1,2,4,5,6,7, he hit a whopping .053. Does that him not clutch at all? I mean, does he hit .053 every game?

agreed…. they’ve both had amazing seasons so it’s not going to be a travesty if either of them wins but i think miggy has it locked up at this point. voters bias is toward players on teams who made the playoffs and of course they’ll put on their RBI glasses.

We just need to stop trying to change the sabrheads minds. They have their minds made up that Trout deserves it and us traditionalists support Miggy. It will be up to BBWAA MVP voters to decide though alot of them still prefer the traditional stats which should help Miggy especially if he holds onto the Triple Crown. All I ask of the sabrheads is that if Miggy wins that they don’t spend all offseason whinining that Miggy won. And traditionalists should likewise not whine if Trout wins.

Lifelong White Sox fan here. Grew up within walking distance of the park. All I can say is congratulations to the Tigers. We had our chances and didn’t deliver. Disappointing series against the Rays did us in. Hope Miggie now gets the Triple Crown. Good luck in the playoffs boys. Will be watching of course.

Philliesblow: No. The Tigers didn’t have to play themselves. They got to split 70 games between the White Sox, Twins, Indians and Royals. The White Sox were the only other good team. The Angels split 54 between the Rangers, A’s and Mariners. They had a tougher schedule and STILL won more games than the Tigers.

Oh it certainly WAS a question. Trout has been hailed the hands-down A.L. MVP for months now. Are you kidding me. Cabrera just in the last week has pushed ahead and was never going to win without the Tigers making the playoffs, the Angels not making the playoffs and getting the Triple Crown. All the pieces fell into place at just the right time for him.

That said though, you’re better off arguing with a wall. The hyperbole with the Cabrera business has gotten so bad lately that most of the regular Cabrera for MVP supporters around here are willing to completely disregard the season-long contributions of the entire rest of the Tigers in order to claim that their being in the playoffs is solely because of Miguel Cabrera.

Is this post a joke, because it kind of made me laugh.

Your proof of clutch is to find one game in which a player goes 4-5 and then sarcastically write that clutch doesn’t exist? Really dude?

Those who argue against clutch are saying that statisically, no player is consistently better or worse in a “clutch” situation. In a small enough sample, you can find any crazy stats you like. I mean, Pete Kozma has a .975 OPS right now.

What you will find is that most players are basically the same in clutch situations as they are every other situation. Cabrera himself has a career .955 OPS, a .900 OPS in “late and close” situations, a .969 OPS with 2 out and runners in scoring position and a .968 OPS with runners in scoring position regardless of outs.
