He’ll play. Why wouldn’t he? His confidence level has to be sky-high right now. Factor in his wanting to show the younger guys how it’s done and his hating to sit, as others have mentioned, and it all adds up to him wanting to win it, not have it handed to him because someone else couldn’t do something about it. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him have two more great games at the plate. All it’ll do is boost his momentum heading into the post-season. Hope he pulls it off. Heck, last time it happened I was THIRTEEN YEARS OLD. This is pretty cool.

Last year when they clinched he said he wanted to play the next day to help show the young guys how important it is to be ready to play everyday. I bet he plays both remaining games.

You’re aware that “records” are just the accumulated totals of in-game events, right? When you say you don’t care about records you’re basically saying you don’t care about the things that happen in baseball games. Which is a silly thing to say because the things that happen in baseball games are fun and awesome.

He only didn’t deserve it in 2005 and 2007. He literally should have won it every other season.

You know what? He deserved it in 2005 and 2007 as well. Even with inferior play, what is more valuable than that dreamlike smile warming your soul every time you set foot in the ballpark?

Makes sense. Didn’t know if there was actually a mythical crown out there that they would come place on Miggy’s head. The last time this happened was well before I was born, so yeah, pretty nice achievement well worth recognition.

It’s not so much an award as a really neat achievement – like hitting for the cycle (well, more impressive than that, but you get the idea). There’s no trophy associated with it, though I’m sure the Tigers will present him with some kind of commemoration for it.

The question of whether or not to sit Cabrera is extremely compelling. There are many angles at play here. From both the health standpoint and the triple crown standpoint. Obviously you want him healthy and rested for the playoffs, but sitting him could cost him the HR title and triple crown. Although, playing him could also cost him the triple crown if he loses the batting title as a result. It’s a huge toss up with many things to take into consideration.

That said, I’d say play him at DH as a way of getting him rest and have him try to earn that triple crown the right way. If they do sit him, I hope it’s just for health reasons and not to protect his batting title a la Jose Reyes.

I give Cabrera a lot of credit for willingly changing positions in order to accommodate Fielder. That position switch was a MVP type of move.

I don’t see Cabrera sitting, Leyland had a hard enough time convincing him to sit the one game after he got hurt that benching him while “healthy” doesn’t seem like something Miguel would go for. Plus, I believe Cabrera is the type of guy who would rather lose one of the categories while playing than sitting and hoping the guys chasing try to catch up to him.
