I’m a fan of all Chicago teams. I don’t understand why it is necessary for Theo Epstein to put one of the worst teams in Cubs history as part of his “rebuilding process”. If you understand how the hell that works I’m all ears.

How did he pull a Dempster? He REJECTED a trade! Unless you are so ignorant you refuse to read actual news, Dempster ACCEPTED a trade and is no longer a Cub! More like Soriano pulled a Ramirez where a guy was too blind to accept a trade to a team in contention. Try doing your homework before you make stupid comments!

He was in the East, with the 2006 Nats. He chose to take the money, and the Nats chose to take the 2 2007 Amateur Draft picks. They were criticized at the time for not trading him. Seems fair to see what they got for letting Alfonso go.

With the 31st overall pick, the Nats took a promising high school lefty named Josh Smoker. Though still only 23, he hasn’t progressed as hoped. In 6 minor league seasons, he hasn’t made AA ball. In 2012, he pitched 9.2 innings at three levels, the highest being A+ (Potomac of the Carolina League).

With the 67th overall pick, the Nats took some kid from a rather obscure college in Wisconsin. He was so obscure, they couldn’t spell his name right; kept putting an extra “n” on it. Took a while to find out what happened to that kid Jordan Zimmermann. Not good; only a 2.94 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 195.2 innings.

He’s not a contributor for 2 reasons. First, he’s not a free agent. Second, his defense this year has been markedly better to the point that he is no longer a defensive liability in the outfield.

Isn’t Soriano a major contributor to that issue? He’s a lousy defender and while he did bounce back nicely, he’s nowhere near the threat us used to be offensively.
