I disagree. 90 wins is not irrelevant. Winning records are not easy, 5 straight winning records is even harder. I am not one who ascribes to the notion that only one team can ultimately have a good season.

I also do not think the Rays’ departure from Florida is imminent. There is nowhere that they would not be a small market team unless somewhere like New York agreed to bring in a 3rd team. We’ll see about stadium issues when the economy in Florida improves.

For 2013 there are changes that will need to happen to remain competitive/improve. Upton is probably gone and Pena needs to be. They need to take what money they can to get a first baseman who can hit. Replacing Upton will be harder. Perhaps they can via the trade route. We’ll see.

90 or 95 wins, it’s irrelevant since the Rays will miss the playoffs for the second time in the last four years. While Tampa Bay deserves credit for fielding a consistent winner, the reality is the decline since the 2008 miracle pennant winning year. In fact, 2010 and 2011, were first round exits, so we’ll see what happens in 2013.

With continuing poor support, and the inevitable rejection of the new stadium concept, the future of the Rays is tenuous in the Tampa Bay area.

Perhaps so, but at the same time if you had offered in March to bet me that a team with 90 wins would miss the playoffs, I’d have taken it.

Oh I know, but there was a lot of cheering at Yankee Stadium when the Rays’ score flashed on their scoreboard, so the “you’re welcome” still applies.

As for the Rangers, well, the Rays needed them to come up big against the A’s, and they failed in spades. If they win 4 of their last 6 against the A’s, not only dothey win their division with the best record I the AL, the Rays get into the playoffs. So while, the Rangers may owe a little thanks to the Rays, they are not welcome. There, mini-rant over, I feel better now.

Much as I hate the Yankees, I have to mention that they are up 12-2 and really didn’t need the Rays’ help.

Now the Rangers on the other hand should be thankful to the Rays because now the O’s are tied with them at 93-69, meaning the WC play in game will be held in Texas instead of Crabtown.
