I agree about the trade. My family moved to Cincinnati during the 1966 season, and the fans already knew it was a stinker of a deal, mere months after it was done. Two of the three players received from Baltimore were stiffs and were sonn gone, and the third, the very competent Milt Pappas, never stood a chance with the rightfully outraged fans and was endlessly abused for the two or three years he was with the team.

But the Nats let him go, soon after he’d said he’d like to manage a couple more years. That may be why he’s been rebuffing them up to now.

Frank Robinson is in an exclusive club, along with Casey Stengel, Leo Durocher and Yogi Berra, and he would have been the only one capable of holding the record alone, if he’d managed just a couple more years. Through playing and managing, those four men are the only ones to have been thrown out of a major league game in five different decades.

When the Nats fired him, they denied him a chance for six and sole possession of the record. I’m surprised he’s so magnanimous about it.

Nice that the two teams Robby played for the Os and the Reds , and one of the teams he managed the Nats are in the playoffs, congrats to all.
