R.A. Dickey is a good bet to win the N.L. Cy Young Award. Turns out he’s been doing it with an abdominal tear since May:

After his final start of the season Tuesday night against the Marlins, Dickey revealed that he pitched virtually the entire season with an abdominal tear that will require offseason surgery. With the Mets surging in the first half, and his storybook season on the line, Dickey prayed with his wife that the injury wouldn’t cut his year short.

He was maintaining pretty well, but he says he aggravated it last night.  He’ll have surgery in the offseason. It shouldn’t interfere with him being ready for spring training.

Just in case Cy Young voters wanted a little more storyline to go with their vote.

Hidden injuries are the new market inefficiency?

Talk about pitching through pain. He’s used up a whole career full of good stories in one year. In his case, I have suspend my normal loathing of all things Mets. Hope he gets the CY.

      “have to suspend”

If someone is going to pitch that well through an abdominal tear, it may as well be the guy who can pitch that well without a trace of a UCL.

    It’s really cool. And yet…

I know some guys play through pain and play well. That doesn’t mean it’s the smart thing to do.

Who knew? All the more reason he deserves the Cy Young. The man is a warrior, no doubt about it. Hanging with Johan Santana has rubbed off on him.

Gio should get the Cy Young. This one hit wonder is all media hype. His carriage is about to turn back into a pumpkin.

be proud. it’s rare someone makes a statement so wrong and offensive AND fails to garner even one scintilla of approval.

When he comes to rule the world and crush all opposition to his Knuckle Heavy Regime beneath his sandaled feet, bringing him down is going to be tricky. Gotta cross abdominal muscle off as a soft spot. Along with UCL. And Mountains. And NL batting. Gonna be tough sledding for the Rebel Alliance.

As much as I’d love Dickey to win the Cy, I think Kershaw is going to hold onto it.

    Replace R.A. with C.Y.
