Deep Thoughts: Potential landing places for Ozzie Guillen

Oct 4, 2012, 10:30 AM EDT

Ozzie Guillen AP

If Ozzie Guillen is let go from the Marlins, I would like to see one of the following things happen:

  • The Red Sox hire him to be their manager, because my gosh that would be a lot of fun;
  • NBC Sports Network hire him to be a full-time baseball pundit on NBC SportsTalk. I’d probably pay NBC to fly me here to Stamford to do the show if Ozzie was around; or
  • Short of that, NBC allowing me to hire Ozzie as a HardballTalk contributor.  We’d let him answer reader email and tweets and stuff in an “Ask Dr. Ozzie” feature, much like the “Ask Dr. Ozzy” thing that “Rolling Stone” runs.

People gotta make this happen.

My sources say he is going to manage Fidel Castro’s personal baseball team…

    • vallewho - Oct 4, 2012 at 10:54 AM

      that was my first thought.

  2. gogigantos - Oct 4, 2012 at 10:33 AM

I think the dude needs a vacation, get some perspective while collecting Marlin cash.
Short of that, would love to have him answering some mail here. Yup, that would be cool for sure.

    Rosetta Stone spokesperson

  5. pisano - Oct 4, 2012 at 10:43 AM

The best landing place for him is Venezuela, he can be Hugo Chavez’s fetch boy.

    • Francisco (FC) - Oct 4, 2012 at 10:52 AM

Hopefully Chavez will be on the way out next week.

      • townballblog - Oct 4, 2012 at 1:06 PM

        I could only dream

      • openseason51 - Oct 4, 2012 at 1:18 PM

Chavez has Sean Penn and Danny Glover and the rest of the communists from Hollywood. It will be tough to get rid of him.

      • Old Gator - Oct 4, 2012 at 2:55 PM

You seem to have a Tea Party idea of what a communist is – in other words, no idea at all.

    • El Bravo - Oct 4, 2012 at 11:12 AM

Ozzie despises Chavez and has been open about that.

    • townballblog - Oct 4, 2012 at 1:05 PM

Ozzie thinks Chavez is a fool.

        Lol

Ozzie to the NY Mets. Perfect foil to that Yankee dynasty thing. Hell, the NY media could do a Jeter-Ozzie thing, like Stephen A Smith-Skip Bayless. Would be better!

    • natslady - Oct 4, 2012 at 10:47 AM

Serious question. Is Terry Collins a good manager, and is he a good manager for the Mets?

      • Francisco (FC) - Oct 4, 2012 at 10:58 AM

I think the Mets should bring in Wally Backman. That’s bound to be entertaining and explosive. Just imagine a Wally Backman – Joe West confrontation.

  7. temporarilyexiled - Oct 4, 2012 at 10:58 AM

Secret replacement for Ozzy Osbourne in his next TV show. See if anyone notices.

  8. apmn - Oct 4, 2012 at 11:03 AM

Ozzie on TV would sound like a test of the Emergency Broadcast System.

  9. papichulo55 - Oct 4, 2012 at 11:10 AM

Who knows about Terry Collins? Mets simply dont have the players for his style. I am serious about Ozzie in NY. It worked with Casey Stengel, didnt it? Ozzie would be the perfect distraction, allowing the team to re-tool, in NY. The Mets dont have the luxury of seasoning their youngsters in the minors. They need someone like Ozzie to shield the youngsters from the NY media. And Ozzie will help the Mets compete with the Yanks for the headlines. Dont be fooled by the BS, Ozzie is also a good baseball manager.

    Royals need a new manager.

    Suicide Hotline- it’s his calling.

  12. cur68 - Oct 4, 2012 at 12:20 PM

I’d love to have Oz as an HBT guest blogger. Can you imagine the exchange he and Gator would get into? I thought you, Craig, and chrsny(insertnumberhere) were argumentative: but those two would set the place on fire…just to see the world burn (it had to be said).

Hey, tweet him and see if he’d do it? Maybe answer Titter questions for you? S’gonna be a long post season (they always are) and that would be a weekly feature worth looking forward to. We could call it Commenter’s Crack.

    • indaburg - Oct 4, 2012 at 3:45 PM

What, pray tell, are titter questions?

      • Francisco (FC) - Oct 4, 2012 at 4:13 PM

Why, those that leave you in a titter anticipating the answer!

      • cur68 - Oct 4, 2012 at 4:24 PM

Why those are THE BEST kind of questions, in my opinion.

      • indaburg - Oct 4, 2012 at 4:35 PM

        Touché, monsieur.

  13. sabathiawouldbegoodattheeighthtoo - Oct 4, 2012 at 12:21 PM

It is a strange thing. Once a person is an MLB manager, even a bad one, they are automatically considered for future MLB managing jobs. While the Marlins’ disappointing season can’t be blamed entirely on Ozzie, he certainly seems to have done (or not done) plenty to help it along.

  14. Old Gator - Oct 4, 2012 at 12:30 PM

I see Slobbering Ozzie as a sort of Latino Professor Irwin Corey. I was just listening to a recording of Corey’s National Book Award acceptance speech on behalf of Thomas Pynchon for Gravity’s Rainbow, and I just couldn’t help imagining Gabriel Garcia Márqez sending Ozzie to Stockholm to accept the Nobel Prize for Cien Años de Soledad.

  15. miguel3557 - Oct 4, 2012 at 1:14 PM

Sorry, but I don’t get it. Why is this nobody with boundless ineptitude and inability to articulate understandable English even being considered for another managerial job, which everyone knows he’ll screw up with his big ego and mouth?

    • indaburg - Oct 4, 2012 at 3:53 PM

I like the guy. Sure, he has a tendency to stick his foot in his mouth (understatement) but I appreciate his honesty. There is no filter between his brain and his mouth. There is no game playing, no psychological warfare. WYSIWYG. He’s like a big slobbering labrador retriever, all his emotions etched in his body language. Don’t be fooled though. Behind that slobbering countenance is a keen baseball mind.

  16. hermitfool - Oct 4, 2012 at 1:22 PM

Would English subtitles for every Ozzie TV appearance add or subtract?

    • Old Gator - Oct 4, 2012 at 1:39 PM

If they were styled after the fashion of What’s Up Tiger Lily, sure.

  17. openseason51 - Oct 4, 2012 at 1:22 PM

Ozie. GO HOME! Take a break and go work in the Winter leagues. Drink Margaritas, enjoy the sun, smoke Cuban cigars and play some golf. You a hero! You won a World Series. You do man! And don’t back!

  18. scratchnsniffnblog - Oct 4, 2012 at 1:53 PM

TLC will tap him for Here Comes Ozzie Boo Boo

  19. workerandparasite - Oct 4, 2012 at 3:38 PM

Any team that hires this boob as their manager is crazier than he is.
