Hamilton seems like he needs to be coddled a lot. Speaking about him negatively will either drive him away from the team in free agency or he’ll shut it down before the post season gets under way.

Didn’t he once talk about having vision problems at the plate during day games? I’m wondering if there is something up with his eyes not adjusting right to the sun.

That would be ridiculous to have those 2 in the same lineup. Sorta like what Cincinnati missed out on with Votto/Hamilton when they gave him up for Volquez.
Just reading how much Hamilton thought Texas was better than Cincinnati as far as the team being welcoming, etc, it seems like he’s a pretty needy player when it comes to emotions. I know he and his wife have said there will be no discount given to the Rangers, but I think they’ll rethink this when the time comes to sign on the dotted line.

Salt Lake City does have a professional baseball team, the Angels’ AAA team, the SLC Bees. OK, silly name, but Mike Trout played here early in the year (actually his name is a bit silly too–not his fault). You can drink beer (just 3.2 alas) at the ballpark. There are actual bars in town where you can drink almost anything you want. Some people smoke (various things). Basically one can have all the fun and get into all the trouble here just the same as anywhere with just a bit more moralizing going on in the background than, say, NYC, but no more than the south (where I’m from). There are also great clubs for rock and roll, a terrific symphony, and an unbelievably good ballet company, while I’m at it. Now, if you missed the news, even Mormons can drink soft drinks with caffeine. I’m sure Josh Hamilton would be welcome here, but he would have the same temptations he faces everywhere else. I suggest he emulate Dusty Baker (welcome back!) and stick to toothpicks.

I think Boston would be a terrible idea. As a Red Sox fan, I can tell you that he’s not going to get the kiddy gloves if he’s struggling and given his fragilities, I don’t think Boston is a good place for him.

Too bad Salt Lake City doesn’t have a professional baseball team. It would be the best place for him.

No way is Josh coming to the Yankees. THERE IS NO CHANCE. Besides the character flaws, which NY avoids like the plague (and of which are innumerable), yanks will not take on 20MM+ types of contracts any time soon. They must get under the $189MM luxury tax threshold by 2014.

I expect this is Josh’s swans song with the rangers, too.

Sounds to me like he was asked specifically about Hamilton, and gave an honest answer. He acknowledged Hamilton hasn’t been his best of recent without throwing him under the bus. No real story here, move along.

GM needs to shut it! The successful players learn to totally erase yesterday, win or lose. The last thing they need is for their GM to talk to the Media about a much needed, soon-to-be free-agent star outfielder..
