Classic Royals move. Dayton Moore insists on re-signing Jeff Francoeur for two years instead of letting minor league player of the year Wil Myers play right field, and he immediately – and predictably – regresses from the career year that Seitzer coaxed out of him. Moore saddles Seitzer with crappy backup options for the injured Lorenzo Cain and Salvador Perez for much of the year – both of whom have hit much better in the big leagues under Seitzer’s tutelage than was expected. Moore and Ned Yost refuse to give the second base job to Johnny Giavotella at the start of the year, leaving Seitzer with Chris Getz and Yuni Betancourt getting too many plate appearances. Meanwhile, Seitzer transformed Alcides Escobar into a decent big league hitter, helped save Alex Gordon’s career and helped Billy Butler convert about 10 doubles into homers this year. All of that which more than balances a poor year from Hosmer and a poor second half from Moustakas

So of course the Royals’ regression in their run total is Seitzer’s fault.

Hosmer walked in 10% of his PAs. That’s considered major league average plate discipline. Moustakas is another story.

Plenty of good hitting coaches in baseball who weren’t good hitters in MLB. Seitzer was a good hitter btw. Doesn’t matter. We need pitching or another 4th or 5th finish

I don’t know why they hired him in the first place. These moves teams make, to do the heartwarming thing for the city, get me nuts sometimes. Kevin was an OKAY hitter, not great.

They need someone to come in and light the place up or they are going to waste all that young talent they have on the MLB roster and on the farm.

Next year’s surprise team or looking north at Terry Francona’s Indians from 5th place. Your call KC.

Typical Dayton Moore once again he fails to assemble any starting pitching. Let’s blame Seitzer. Hosmer and moose have no discipline at plate. He saved Gordon’s career . But hey someone needs to be the fall guy. It’s never Dayton’s fault
