Terry Francona interviewed with the Indians this morning

Oct 5, 2012, 11:19 AM EDT

Terry Francona’s interview to replace Manny Acta as Indians manager took place this morning in Cleveland, as the team’s official Twitter account revealed:

Everything points to Francona being the Indians’ first choice, with Sandy Alomar also going through the interview process (and effusively praising Francona along the way) as the in-house fallback option.

As much as I respect Francona this is one tribe fan hoping Sandy gets the job.

I love Sandy Tribefever, but he is my second choice. You never, ever pass up on a manager who comes in with 2 WS rings. Not even Sandy had 1 in his playing days. The Indians have never hired anyone with that much credibility. I so want it to happen.

They were then struck by the idea to have a manage to the death competition with the employee softball teams. Winner take the job. The game is now 45-41 in the bottom of the third inning. Team Tito in the lead.

Game update, it’s now 97-95 in favor of Team Alomar in the bottom of the 8th. Sandy’s ploy of having KFC delivered to Tito’s dugout served it’s purpose of shaking up the opposing manager. Francona made the error of mistaking VP of Scouting John Mirabelli for Doug Mirabelli, who proceeded to mishandle Mark Shapiro’s knuckle throw to home plate allowing two runs to score. Looks like this one’s coming down to the wire!

I would like to see Sandy get the job… Charles Nagy as the pitching coach… Belle as the hitting coach… Roberto Alomar designated to fight with the umpires!!!

He looks an awful lot like Donald Pleasance in Night of the Generals in that photo. Hope he’s got a plane ready to whisk him out of Cleveland when his plans come unglued.

Antonetti should see if there are any decent right hand bats in that softball game. There sure aren’t many in the clubhouse.
