Kozma had to have heard the umpire or something. He was right under the play. If he hadn’t pulled off, the ball would have nearly hit him. He certainly could have caught it.

Can someone explain to me what Bourn was thinking? If you know you have to make a long throw to home (or any base actually), why would you catch an easy pop fly flat footed? Why not take a few steps back, and catch it while moving forward? Is there something I’m missing?

[note, talking about easy fly balls here, not running/diving catches]

I would love a Cardinals vs. Orioles WS. Then could the Blue Jays be far behind in playoff competition (if I go for a spurious team name correlation)? With the success of those teams, would there be a movement to change team names from reptiles, fish and “people” (racist and not) and go with specific bird names like Meadowlarks, Towhees, Grosbeaks, Rooks, Kestrels or Peregrines?

Who will be looser? Cardinals
Who is thumbing their nose at the baseball gods (laws of probability)? Braves
Also interesting that the Cardinals have two players that have had a couple of the greatest individual post-seasons in recent history (Freese & Beltran) (although that didn’t help Beltran when he was with the Mets…oops that was the Cardinals then wasn’t it?)

At least its going to be high tension TV – assuming the shadows aren’t an important factor.
