We’re forgetting that Pete Mackanin was let go as Phillies Bench Coach. Red Sox interviewed him last year for the Manager position. He may well hit the market and attempt to get a gig somewhere.

It is fairly obvious that the failings of the 2012 Rockies cannot be blamed on Jim Tracy but his records speak for themselves. The Rockies regressed every year under Tracy and it is very possible that the 2009 season was an aberration that resulted in the change from Hurdle. Teams frequently improve after a mid-season managerial change.

Tracy is a good guy and is by all accounts, “a player’s manager”. But like most managers, he’s prone to playing favorites. He also has a history of irrational bullpen management, frequent lineup tinkering and micromanaging. As a Rockies fan with great memories of the 2009 season under Tracy, I wish him the best of luck and I wouldn’t mind if he followed the status quo and stayed with the organization in some capacity.

Jim Tracy has not had a good history as a manager so I find it very difficult to defend him right now, regardless of the fact that when the Rockies win during the season it means they are lucky more than being a nicely run franchise.

I think Jim’s time as a manager is up and, again, while he seems like a nice enough guy, I just don’t think he has the special ingredient to be a great manager. Maybe put him in a situation with amazing talent and see what happens, but I think his time is up in the bigs.
