Josh Reddick labels Tigers reliever ‘unprofessional’ after kiss

Tigers reliever Al Alburquerque‘s win was sealed with a kiss Sunday, as he opted to give the baseball a little sugar after snagging Yoenis Cespedes‘ comebacker to end the top of the ninth.

Alburquerque kissed the ball before throwing it over to Prince Fielder for the out in a tie game. It was the only batter he’d face, and he was credited with the victory when the Tigers scored in the bottom of the ninth.

The A’s weren’t at all impressed by the gesture.

“It did get under my skin,” outfielder Josh Reddick said. “It was very unprofessional. I didn’t appreciate that one bit.”

One imagines the Tigers will tell Alburquerque not to do it again. If any Detroit reliever is going to make it a point to regularly show up the other team, it’s going to be Jose Valverde.

Josh Reddick is a crybaby who is upset that he’s been getting manhandled by Detroit pitchers.

Oh, quit your whining, Goldilocks. But, yeah, Valverde is the flashy on this team. Looking forward to more ball kissing in Oakland though.

The stuff baseball players find to whine about never ceases to amaze me. Next time, Reddick, get a hit, and then you won’t have to worry about it.

Stick a tampon in it, josh.

    • Bryz - Oct 7, 2012 at 5:55 PM

That was a bit sexist there, don’t you think?

      • approvenothing - Oct 7, 2012 at 6:35 PM

As I always say, ain’t sexist if it’s true.

  5. teambringitstrong - Oct 7, 2012 at 4:52 PM

None of you above are bad enough to say it to Josh’s face so why don’t you stick that tampon in yours.

    • historiophiliac - Oct 7, 2012 at 4:58 PM

Seriously, you think none of us would heckle Reddick in person if we had the chance? Have you been to a ballgame? “Whiner” would qualify as the nicest trash talking I ever heard in a ballpark.

      • churchoftheperpetuallyoutraged - Oct 7, 2012 at 5:06 PM

I believe he means in a one on one conversation, not part of 50,000 in a crowd.

      • historiophiliac - Oct 7, 2012 at 6:26 PM

Ok, well, I’ve called people worse things than “whiner” face to face too.

As a tigers fan I was a little surprised to see AA kiss the ball, and yes I can see how it could bother some people. But at this point, both teams have bigger fish to fry than to try and make an issue out of him kissing the ball. I wish he hadn’t, but if Oakland wants to stew about it they will likely be doing so at home. So may as well just focus on playing better baseball.

    • ponsonbybritt - Oct 7, 2012 at 8:43 PM

I suppose if AA was hoping for an advantage, he sure got his wish. Getting under the skin of your opponents is becoming more and more a part of MLB; remember A-Rod walking on the A’s pitching mound when Dallas Braden was pitching a year or so ago?

Like how the little rat faced Reddick was afraid to say it to Albuqerque, and waited till he was safely in the locker room?

  8. takingbovadasmoney - Oct 7, 2012 at 5:13 PM

1-7 with 6ks? Reddick needs to worry about himself rather than the Umpires or players kissing the ball.

  9. takingbovadasmoney - Oct 7, 2012 at 5:15 PM

@teambringit… oh I heckled the shit out of him today and he didnt even look up

  10. historiophiliac - Oct 7, 2012 at 7:02 PM

But now that he’s said this in public, I bet people blow kisses at him or kiss balls in front of him a lot for awhile.

  11. hardballtalkusername - Oct 7, 2012 at 8:01 PM

Al Alburquerque just likes to kiss balls. No big deal, or is it in Michigan?

    • vinnyboborinostein - Oct 7, 2012 at 9:16 PM

      You should talk hardballs

  12. pisano - Oct 8, 2012 at 12:31 AM

Josh, sounds like sour grapes, you should be better than that.

  13. weaselpuppy - Oct 8, 2012 at 2:18 AM

Josh’s hair is unprofessional…..fortunately after he K’s a few more times Tuesday, he’ll have 4 months to get it styled into a new do….

I wonder if Mike Francesa is upset about this, or does he still not think Al Albuquerque is a real name
