You apparantly don't know about Victor Marte.

Also, Rzep had 9 scoreless appearances up until that moment. Moore is a dead pull hitter and Rzep's pitches were placed well outside almost in the other batter's box. Moore flailed at the previous pitch. He poked his bat out there and just happened to get enough of it for it to drop.

Rzep is by far the worst reliever on the team. Why Matheny keeps going to him in the clutch is baffeling. Worst part... All season long Matheny has went right back to him the next day trying to prove some point. Why even have Boggs as your 8th inning guy if you won't give him the chance to finish it?

"Can’t stand that the cards here on a BS call."

Please, for the love of God, let's drop this narrative *right now*.

Win Probability (using Hardballtimes Calculator) if the play had gone the Braves way? 81%...for the Cardinals. (the call going the Cardinals way made it 92%).

That means, had that call gone the Braves way, there was still an 81% chance they would lose. It was a big blown call, *but it every likely had no bearing on the outcome of the game*.

7 walks yes, but only 3 hits. The pitching was great, like it has been all season. The Nats won it in the 8th, but getting out of a bases loaded nobody out jam in what was it, the 6th, that was the game. Way to pitch Matheus great game. 2 pitches and inning over. Is that a scouting thing? both batters swing at the first pitch with the bases loaded, i dont get it. But i loved it, great game.

The Schumacher over Carpenter pinch hitting decision was a wash, Carpenter had his shot later.

Scrabble being called on was just goofy.

The sac bunt moved Adron Chambers to second, not Freese. Still goofy though.

Game shoulda been put away much earlier, way to many blown ops and players failing to step up when called upon.

Personally, I don't agree with the call to bring in Scrabble.
The double switch wasn't an option so he couldn't bring in Motte.
So in this case...he should have stuck with Motte obviously.
I think the "Dipwad" is sensationalizing. But thats okay too.

The Tracy/Moore thing was entirely predictable--Davey's done it before, and vice-versa (Moore up first, pull him back for Tracy). That's why Moore is on the roster instead of DeRosa.

Davey said he did call for the bunt. Would have put Jackson as a pinch-runner in for a suicide squeeze, but was afraid EJax might get injured. Only curiosity to me was him using Bernadina as a PH instead of Lombardozzi. Davey likes to use Bernie later for defensive purposes. Luckily Morse made that catch in LF.

From Wapo:

Baseball Prospectus’s Sam Miller reported that Mattheus became the first pitcher in postseason history to finish an inning in just two pitches.
