Until he blew out his Achilles, I was certain that he would walk after 2012 and sign with a team aching for an aging, complainer DH, but he’s damaged goods. The DH role has changed everywhere except Boston.

They will give him a deal, but only for one year. He needs it otherwise he gets lazy.

That being the case, any deal for someone who blows out the Achilles just trotting is not an ideal candidate for any big, long or even medium term deal. Performance based is only way to go. Don’t like it, tell him to hit the road and see if he could do better elsewhere.
