1972 Olympics forever changed security at big-time sports events, like 9/11 changed air travel. And yes, sporting events, FYI, have been tied to politics since the original Olympics. Security at sporting events is not a joke. Thats why the Troopers were there, and thats why the players are justified in identifying the Fail.

It is not right for Jeter, Swisher or any athlete to be made fun of while they are expressing concerns about their safety. Who are we to say its an overreaction? We can study the stats, read the gossip columns, but we will never know their lives. We dont hear the threats. If these two level-headed athletes have a problem with these Troopers, then so do I.

If anything while they were asking for autographs they were doing a better job of securing both these guys just by being in the way. They were unprofessional, nobody is arguing that but quit overeacting.

Embarassed? Hardly. I’m sure to get the dugout job of a playoff game you have to have some time on the job. These guys shouldn’t have done it but the most they should get is a “hey guys, lets be a little smarter next time.”

I see a reassignment, letter of reprimand in their file and a careers worth of teasing/ball busting from their fellow troopers for this infraction. I understand how many people don’t think this is a big deal and in the grand scheme of things it isn’t.
That said the men have embarrassed their agency and need to be held accountable.
