As a Ranger fan, I enjoyed what he gave to Texas in the time he was here. But as a fan of the "team" and not one superstar I will be just as glad to let him move on and become someone else's "enigma". When the guy is on, he's lights out, when he isn't.....well we all saw the last few weeks of the season what that's like. Either way I wish him the best. Some people take all of this too seriously and attack him on a personal level. Sure as fans do we hate when our superstar doesn't perform, absolutely, but at the end of the day, it's still a game and he's still just a human being who gets paid a ridiculous amount of $$ for what he does.

Best of luck to you Josh! And go Rangers (next year of course).

I f--king HATE when players claim this and that is "god's will". WHAT A LAME COP OUT. This all has to do with nothing more than the pitcher vs. the batter. If baseball isn't 100% about free will, then nothing is.

Anytime someone gives their life and decisions away to some mythological construct, they cease being human, and become nothing. If you strike out 3 times in a game, it is 1000% on you.

Here on NY radio the question about Hamilton comes up frequently. My understanding is that the Yankees have little to no interest. Word is that he's so frail in his sobriety that he carries no money with him. And that's in Arlington. Josh won't do well in a big city. I think the teams that could sign him know that.

As a Rangers fan, my position on JH is that he should move on. He is an undeniable talent, and there is no question that he has been a significant part of the team's success over the past 3 seasons.

But, there are simply too many elements at play here. First of all, there is always going to be some physical issue with this guy, and it is only going to get worse as he gets older. Even with a season where he didn't go on the DL once, there were still back issues and eye issues that took him out for a few days.

Then, there's the addiction and religion. JH has been able to find success and fight back from the depths of addiction, and he gives credit to his faith. Certainly, those things alone are not drawbacks, but I do think they affect him as a ballplayer. He always seems to have the mindset that "whatever happens, that's what God wanted" and as such he comes off as disinterested. With his addiction issues, I think that routine and structure are important to his success... and he seems very unwilling to break from his approach, even when it's clear it is not working, and adjustments should be at least attempted.

And finally, I simply think he doesn't want to be "the guy", at least not in the standard way. During the last 2 games of the season - one to win the division and one to keep playing altogether - he completely disappeared. Sure, it happens, but the fanbase looked to this guy to deliver. There were superstar moments to be had during the final portion of the season, and JH showed that he may not be the superstar that Rangers fans hoped/wanted/expected him to be. If you bring him back on a true superstar salary, then those demands would be even greater (especially given his and the team's showing at the end).

Even if it means the Rangers have to plan more for 2014 than they do 2013, then that's fine. But if they re-sign JH, they'll be out a sizable chunk of money for several years, and that's money they could spend on 2 or 3 pieces that could add to the group effort.

He's a tough talent to replace and it's hard to walk away from a 139 OPS+. But he also carries a fairly high rate of days lost to injury. (although better on that stat this year). And he is so high maintenance emotionally. They may figure they have enough talent to let him walk and invest the money in another pitcher and a merely solid corner outfielder. God knows they would get fewer weird headlines that way.
